Located in the heart of Columbus on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, the Columbus Uptown provides the City with a rich palette of history, architecture, art and heritage. The master planning effort seeks to link physical planning with economic/community development programming and implementation, resulting in a master plan that seeks to capture the Uptown energy, direct it to the riverfront and make it a major asset that can reposition the city for decades to come. The design team, in conjunction with the residents and client group have created a master plan that fosters social interaction and economic development while maintaining the overall character that defines Columbus today. As activation of the riverfront is a key goal, the master plan will focus on bringing physical design solutions to enhance the livability, comfort, security and activity. Woodruff Park is considered as the anchor public space. This riverfront park will act as the key gathering and public space making the connection to the river. To facilitate the movement north/south along the river, the master plan provides a series of design improvements to enhance the upland activities along the river, and to leverage the whitewater improvements.
