Overview

Riverwalk is credited as a catalyst for urban core development and renaissance of downtown Fort Lauderdale taking advantage of the New River as a resource. Completed in 1994, the pedestrian-oriented center, has attracted hundreds of millions of dollars of investment into the city’s core. A high profile public open space, the animated urban waterfront venue plays to a variety of activities and scheduled events.

The Riverwalk features a number of public facilities and attractions, including a Performing Arts Center, Museum of Discovery and Science, Las Olas Shoppes, Bubier Park, entertainment complex, 100-slip public marina, waterfront restaurants, and business centers.

EDSA was responsible for the master plan, public consensus building, design guidelines, detailed design and construction related services for the linear park. Riverwalk was awarded an inaugural “National Landscape Award” for public space in 1994 and has been recognized with the following awards: Broward Beautiful, 1st Place, Special Achievement, 2003; Aurora Award, 1996; Waterfront Center Award, 1995; Florida Design Arts Award, 1995; Florida Nursery, Growers & Landscape Association, 1993; American Society of Landscape Architects/Florida Chapter, Frederic Stresau Award of Excellence, 1992.
